TIMSS 2023 International Database

The TIMSS 2023 International Database is a rich resource for researchers, policymakers, and any individuals seeking to explore the data collected in TIMSS 2023. The database includes internationally comparable data from all TIMSS 2023 participating countries and benchmarking regions, including student assessment results in mathematics and science, process data, and extensive contextual information collected from participating students as well as their parents, their teachers, and their school principals. Additional data collected from TIMSS National Research Coordinators highlight the national contexts of participating countries, focusing on education policies and mathematics and science curricula.

As the eighth assessment cycle of TIMSS, first conducted in 1995, the data from TIMSS 2023 provide opportunities to examine 28 years of global trends in mathematics and science achievement at the fourth and eighth grades.

The TIMSS 2023 User Guide for the International Database offers detailed documentation to aid users in navigating the immense database and supplemental material and in conducting basic analyses. Researchers can analyze the data using the IEA IDB Analyzer, a free application developed by IEA Hamburg to facilitate the analysis of large-scale assessment data.

The public-use version of the database is available to download below, along with the User Guide. Users can request permission through the IEA Study Data Repository to access additional variables removed from the public-use version (see Chapter 2 of the User Guide).
